{"id":104,"date":"2007-11-23T08:58:00","date_gmt":"2007-11-23T13:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.familytidings.com\/blog\/?p=104"},"modified":"2007-11-23T08:58:00","modified_gmt":"2007-11-23T13:58:00","slug":"using-the-hp-8450s-card-reader","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.familytidings.com\/blog\/?p=104","title":{"rendered":"Using the HP 8450&#8217;s Card Reader"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The card reader on the HP PhotoSmart 8450 can be read in Linux using hp-toolbox.  hp-toolbox comes in the hplip RPM.<\/p>\n<p>When I ran hp-toolbox, it didn&#8217;t list any printers even though they are set up in CUPS (visible in a browser in http:\/\/localhost:631).<br \/>So I did a set up in hp-toolbox:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Device\/Set up new device<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>Enter root password<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>Select network connection&#8211;printer appears in list<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>Select driver<\/li>\n<p><\/ul>\n<p>Only three drivers showed up:  HP Laserjet 8000 and 8100 series and Mopier 240.  So I chose &#8220;Select Other&#8221;. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Select the 8400 printer driver.  Mine is in <code>\/usr\/share\/cups\/model\/HP-PhotoSmart_8400-hpijs.ppd<\/code>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I left &#8220;send test page to printer&#8221; selected.  The page printed but the printer didn&#8217;t show up in list.  Then I selected Device\/refresh all and the printer appeared.<br \/>Put an SD card in card reader (lower right slot).  Select Functions tab.  Press &#8220;Photo Card&#8221; button.  The pictures appear in a window to be selected.  Note uploading pictures this way is really slow.
