{"id":185,"date":"2008-12-21T09:55:10","date_gmt":"2008-12-21T14:55:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.familytidings.com\/blog\/?p=185"},"modified":"2008-12-26T14:19:12","modified_gmt":"2008-12-26T19:19:12","slug":"ripping-cds-to-mp3-format-with-sound-juicer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.familytidings.com\/blog\/?p=185","title":{"rendered":"Ripping CDs to MP3 Format with Sound Juicer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve got Sound Juicer (listed on the Fedora 9 menu under Applications\/Sound &amp; Video\/Audio CD Extractor or command line <code>sound-juicer<\/code>) able to rip CDs as MP3s for my daughters&#8217; Sansa Shaker and M240 MP3 players.\u00c2\u00a0 They asked me to put a CD on their players for them.\u00c2\u00a0 Actually, they asked me to put a half dozen CDs on their players.\u00c2\u00a0 Rather than sign up as the family audio technician, I&#8217;d rather teach the elder to do it.\u00c2\u00a0 I told her I&#8217;d get things ready for her and off she bounded to watch &#8220;How to Eat Fried Worms&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>I started Sound Juicer and went to Edit\/Preferences on the menu.\u00c2\u00a0 Under Output formats, there was only\u00c2\u00a0 FLAC, Ogg, and Speex.\u00c2\u00a0 I couldn&#8217;t remember how I got MP3 ripping enabled and this box is Fedora 8, not 9, so I went to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fedorafaq.org\/f8\/\">Fedora FAQ 8<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Follow steps in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fedorafaq.org\/f8\/#getsoftware\">Configuring Yum<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Install <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fedorafaq.org\/f8\/#mp3\">GStreamer MP3 Drivers (under Rhythmbox)<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Then MP3 was available as an output option, so I set that and ripped Hannah Montana (ugh).<\/p>\n<p>Since Sansa players organize music by MP3 tag, I needed to check that these were correctly set.\u00c2\u00a0 There are many ID3 tag editors.\u00c2\u00a0 I happen to use <a href=\"http:\/\/kid3.sourceforge.net\/\">Kid3<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Thankfully, the tags set by Sound Juicer were fine.\u00c2\u00a0 Except they were in version 2 (ID3v2) format and the\u00c2\u00a0 Sansa M240 uses version 1 (ID3v1) tags.\u00c2\u00a0 (The Shaker doesn&#8217;t have a screen, so it&#8217;s OK for that one).\u00c2\u00a0 This meant that the music was playable but in the M240 menus, it all shows up as &#8220;unknown&#8221;.\u00c2\u00a0 To fix with Kid3, I selected all the tracks with Ctrl-A and clicked &#8220;From Tag 2&#8221; and Save.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve got Sound Juicer (listed on the Fedora 9 menu under Applications\/Sound &amp; Video\/Audio CD Extractor or command line sound-juicer) able to rip CDs as MP3s for my daughters&#8217; Sansa Shaker and M240 MP3 players.\u00c2\u00a0 They asked me to put a CD on their players for them.\u00c2\u00a0 Actually, they asked me to put a half [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-185","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.familytidings.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/185","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.familytidings.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.familytidings.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.familytidings.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.familytidings.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=185"}],"version-history":[{"count":16,"href":"https:\/\/www.familytidings.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/185\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":195,"href":"https:\/\/www.familytidings.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/185\/revisions\/195"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.familytidings.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=185"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.familytidings.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=185"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.familytidings.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=185"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
