As a workaround, I have been using the line out 3.5mm jack to feed an older set of speakers, but there&#8217;s no remote control for volume on those speakers.  <\/p>\n<p>Some useful commands:<\/p>\n<p><code>aplay -l<\/code><br \/>\n<code>aplay -L<\/code><\/p>\n<p>to see what sound devices there are.  The Intel audio card is there and if I run<br \/>\n<code>aplay -D plughw:0,7 \/usr\/share\/sounds\/alsa\/Front_Center.wav<\/code> it works.  If I don&#8217;t specify the device, there&#8217;s no error, but no sound.<\/p>\n<p>I also tried to set up <code>~\/.asoundrc<\/code>:<\/p>\n<p><code>pcm.!default {<br \/>\n  type hw<br \/>\n  card PCH<br \/>\n  device 7<br \/>\n}<br \/>\n<\/code><br \/>\nBut running aplay without the device parameter still gives no sound, but there&#8217;s an error message:<\/p>\n<p><code>aplay: set_params:1065: Channels count non available<br \/>\n<\/code><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I still haven&#8217;t figured out the sound problem on the HTPC.
