{"id":997,"date":"2012-08-26T16:47:05","date_gmt":"2012-08-26T21:47:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.familytidings.com\/blog\/?p=997"},"modified":"2012-08-26T18:20:52","modified_gmt":"2012-08-26T23:20:52","slug":"pinto-ubuntu-12-04-1-lts-upgrade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.familytidings.com\/blog\/?p=997","title":{"rendered":"Pinto Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS Upgrade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Having <a href=\"http:\/\/www.familytidings.com\/blog\/?p=981\">backed up and cloned the Ubuntu 10.04 partition<\/a>, I&#8217;m ready to upgrade the cloned partition to 12.04.1 LTS.<\/p>\n<p>All that&#8217;s required is to boot into the clone partition and run System-&gt;Administration-&gt;Upgrade Manager. \u00c2\u00a0First, I checked for and applied outstanding updates to 10.04. \u00c2\u00a0Then, I pushed the Upgrade button. \u00c2\u00a0There was a warning that third party sources were disabled and they could be re-enabled after the upgrade with the <code>software-properties<\/code> tool.<\/p>\n<p>During the installation, it wanted to replace my NTP configuration (I had picked a couple local servers) and <code>\/etc\/apparmor.d\/usr.sbin.cupsd<\/code>. The latter had custom stuff for my Lexmark printer, so I&#8217;ll probably need to reinstall that. <code>\/etc\/default\/nfs-common<\/code> had some changes too. I had added <code>NEED_IDMAPD=yes<\/code> to mine, but I don&#8217;t remember why. I&#8217;m going to use the new version and see if anything breaks.<\/p>\n<p>After the installation, I rebooted and found the first problem right away. Grub had been updated to run the new 3.2 kernel, but using the old sda6 file system. The mouse didn&#8217;t work and neither did networking, but I was able to log in. I fixed up <code>\/boot\/grub\/menu.lst<\/code> and rebooted. I did notice that the upgrade left the older kernel files that were referenced in menu.lst outside of the DEBIAN AUTOMAGIC KERNELS LIST section.
