In the past, fonts were installed by copying them to a common fonts directory and running fc-cache to make the system aware of the new fonts. Since then, things have gotten easier with Font Manager (/usr/bin/font-manager). To install a font:
- Run Font Manager
- If the button in the upper left corner does not say “Manage”, click it and select the “Manage” radio button
- Next to the “Manage” button, click the + button
- Select the font file(s) to install
That’s it. Font Manager will load the font and display a sample of text in that font. Note that Font Manager can install directly from zip files, so you don’t need to unzip them first.
