Installing fonts with Ubuntu 24

In the past, fonts were installed by copying them to a common fonts directory and running fc-cache to make the system aware of the new fonts.  Since then, things have gotten easier with Font Manager (/usr/bin/font-manager).  To install a font:

  1. Run Font Manager
  2. If the button in the upper left corner does not say “Manage”, click it and select the “Manage” radio button
  3. Next to the “Manage” button, click the + button
  4. Select the font file(s) to install

That’s it.  Font Manager will load the font and display a sample of text in that font.  Note that Font Manager can install directly from zip files, so you don’t need to unzip them first.
